The first impression that will become noticeable is that the new interface is rendered in the form of a web application. The implementation of new web technologies will make the navigation will feel more like a native desktop application. This means that every detail has been redesigned using current frameworks with principles in mind for designing a modern-day graphical user interface. Therefore, as a result FAST-PASS 7 does not require any client-side plugins (e.g., Active-X, Adobe Flash, or Microsoft Silverlight) to bring functionality to the web pages. To provide context into this effort, it is worth starting with a brief historical background, the first release of FAST-PASS dates to early 2000 and it was a desktop application. Since then FAST-PASS has been installed in correctional facilities, government buildings, hospital systems, multi-tenant offices, school districts, and other organizations where hundreds, and in some cases, thousands of visitors are processed per day. Along the way to accommodate business rules and requirements, features and modules were added to extend the functionality of the system. However, since then the world has changed in so many ways, in particular with technology, regulations, and requirements coupled with a demand for intelligent systems.
